Precautions: This product is contraindicated in the following pregnant women: those with a gestational age of less than 24 weeks or more than 33 weeks; those with premature rupture of membranes after 30 weeks of gestation; those with intrauterine fetal growth restriction and abnormal fetal heart rate; those with antepartum uterine hemorrhage requiring immediate delivery; those with eclampsia and severe preeclampsia requiring delivery; those with intrauterine fetal death; those with suspected intrauterine infection; those with placenta previa; those with placental abruption; those where continued pregnancy would be at risk to the mother or fetus; and those with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or excipients of this product.
When used in patients where premature rupture of membranes cannot be ruled out, the benefit of delayed delivery should be weighed against the potential risk of chorioamnionitis. The efficacy of this product in multiple pregnancies or gestational ages of 24–27 weeks has not been established. Uterine contractions and fetal heart rate should be monitored during administration, and the possibility of sustained uterine contractions should be considered. Postpartum blood loss should also be monitored. Cases of overdose are rare, and no abnormal symptoms have been reported. The most common adverse reaction (incidence greater than 10%) is nausea. Common side effects (occurring in 1%–10%) include headache, dizziness, flushing, vomiting, palpitations, hypotension, injection site reactions, and hyperglycemia. Less common side effects (occurring in 0.1%–1%) include fever, insomnia, itching, and rash.
