Atosiban, also known as Atosibanum or Tractocile [1], is a uterine contraction inhibitor used to delay preterm labor in pregnant women aged 24–33 weeks with normal fetal heart rate and at 18 years of age or older. It is indicated for regular uterine contractions occurring more than 4 times every 30 minutes (each lasting at least 30 seconds), accompanied by cervical dilation of 1–3 cm (0–3 cm for primiparous women) and cervical effusion of more than 50%.
Clinical trials have shown that atosiban has a significantly higher success rate in maintaining pregnancy and natural delivery in older patients with threatened preterm labor than the ritodrine hydrochloride control group, with a lower incidence of adverse reactions. The international multicenter randomized double-blind trial (APOSTEL 8) showed that after use in patients at 30–33+6 weeks of gestation, there was no significant difference in perinatal mortality and the incidence of severe neonatal disease (8%) compared to the placebo group (9%).
